Easy Whole Wheat Grain Bread
I’m no bread maker, but today’s recipe is one for the books.
This bread is:
the BEST toast making bread
& SO yummy
My mother-in-law was actually the one to show me the core of this recipe. I was shocked by how simple the ingredients were but how much I absolutely loved the taste! So, I asked her If I could take it and modify.
And that led me to this post today!
This bread is phenomenal toasted with coconut oil and honey spread on top! If you try this recipe, let me know what you think! Comment or share a photo tagged #asimplepalate. I would love to see your beautiful food creations!
- 3 cups unbleached flour
- 3 cups whole wheat flour
- 1/4 cup honey
- 2 3/4 cups warm water
- 1 tbsp salt
- 2 tbsp yeast
- 2 tbsp each flax seeds, sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, old-fashion oats set aside for sprinkling on top
- 1 egg lightly beaten
In electric mixer, sift dry ingredients together (unbleached flour, whole wheat flour, yeast, salt, seeds, honey.) While mixer is running at low speed, slowly pour warm water throughout mixture and turn speed up medium until dough forms.
Dough should be slightly sticky. Add a little extra flour if dough sticks to your hands too much.
Kneed dough several times on a well floured surface. Use a coconut oil spray or olive oil to coat 2 bread pans evenly. Brush dough lightly with olive oil, place in bread pans and cover with foil. Place dough pans in a warmer spot and allow the dough to rise for 1 hour.
When dough is finished rising preheat oven to 400F. Evenly spread the dough out to fit pans. Brush lightly beaten egg evenly over dough. Use a sharp knife and carefully slice a line down the center of each loaf. Sprinkle grains you've set aside over top and bake for 30 minutes!
Bread should be lightly browned, with a crunchy outer shell. Enjoy it warm with coconut oil & honey - SO good. Freeze or refrigerate loaves in ziplock bag to store.
