Ingredients You Need
You’ll just need a handful of pantry ingredients to make this delicious apple cake. Here’s all you need: oat flour (ground up oats), coconut sugar, granny smith apple, baking powder + soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, butter (regular or vegan), almond milk, eggs, and vanilla extract.
How to Make Apple Streusel Bread
- Preheat oven to 350F. Whisk dry ingredients together in bowl (remove any lumps from flour).
- Then whisk together wet ingredients (eggs, butter, vanilla, sugar).
- Add dry ingredients into wet, along with chopped apple. Slowly mix until just combined – do not over-mix batter.
- Gently pour batter into 9×4 1/2 inch loaf pan lined with parchment paper. Mix streusel ingredients together in a bowl and sprinkle evenly over top of cake.
- Bake 50-55 minutes – test with toothpick. Cool for 10 minutes before slicing into and serving.
Extra Apple Bread Tips & Faqs
oat flour: you can either purchase this or make your own by grind oats in a high-powered blender until very fine “flour” consistency.
milk options: for dairy-free milks you can use almond milk or coconut milk. If you don’t prefer recipes to be dairy-free you can of course use regular milk!
Don’t over-mix batter: This is a general rule in baking. But I have found when baking with oat flour to be extra cautious when mixing batter. Over-mixing it can result in a rubbery or tough cake. Gently fold flour into wet ingredients until just combined for best results.
what are the best apples for baking bread? for baking you want an apple that is both tart, sweet, and firm texture – we recommend granny smith for this reason. But other contenders we have loved are fuji, honey crisp, and pink lady apples!
Keeping Leftovers Fresh & Freezing Tips
Keep leftover bread fresh by storing in a ziplock bag at room temperature for 3-5 days or chill in fridge to keep extra fresh.
Freeze bread by wrapping individual slices in plastic wrap and then storing in a freezer-friendly ziplock bag for 1-2 months. Thaw and reheat in microwave when ready to serve.
If you’re ready to embrace the season of fall and all things apples and pumpkins, this moist apple bread is a great place to start. It’s also healthy enough to serve as a breakfast or brunch option, and of course is wonderful for dessert too.
We hope you love this recipe as much as we do.

Hello Bethany. I am wondering what should be the size of chopped apples like should I cut it in smaller chunks or some different size? Thank you!
I recommend smalled diced pieces, about 1/2-inch in size!
